| MONTHLY NEWSLETTER – JANUARY 2012 WHAT DO YOU DO WITH A PROPHETIC WORD? Do you ask yourself what to do when you receive a personal prophecy, hear prophesying in the church or when you read prophesies from the Bible? How do you react on them? Does it go in from the other ear and out from the other? Apostle Paul tells us to test prophecies and not to despise them and, also, to keep what is good. This is how it is. If God speaks, we should really notice it and receive it. A prophet and King Darius’ adviser, Daniel, found a prophecy about his own times while he was reading the Scriptures of the Old Testament in 538-39 BC. Daniel had been taken into captivity in 605 BC, when Babylonians attacked Israel. Later Medes and Persians took over Babylonia. Daniel noticed from the Lord’s announcement, which He had given to Jeremiah, that Jerusalem would be desolate for 70 years. What did Daniel do? He understood that the prophecy was given for his time, about his land and nation. Because of that he interceded for his nation that the prophecy would come to pass. The books of Ezra and Nehemiah tell us how Jerusalem was rebuilt. The temple of Jerusalem was destroyed in 586 BC, and it was built up again exactly 70 years after in 516 BC. Jeremiah’s prophecy came true when the temple was ready. We can take Daniel as our example. When we hear prophecies, we should ask: “Who is it for?” Is it a personal prophecy for me or is it for the church, or for Finland, or for some other nation? Jeremiah’s prophecy was for Daniel’s time and about his home city. You cannot generalise it to be about all desolate cities. The prophecy motivated Daniel to pray for it to happen. Why did he do so? Because he believed the word was for him! He believed that the Lord was expressing His will through the Bible and that the Lord put on Daniel’s heart to pray about it. He received the message, he wasn’t indifferent and thinking: “Let’s see if Jeremiah was right”, but he prayed for the Lord’s will to happen. Read chapter 9 from the Book of Daniel! Our Heavenly Father and the Lord Jesus Christ are seeking for those who receive the word and act according to it. Without people God’s will won’t be done on earth! You can be one of them in 2012!
